Winter weather policy for the library requires that we remain closed until all sidewalks and parking areas have been cleared and treated as needed. This means that if school is closed on Monday morning, the library will be closed also. If the storm has stopped in sufficient time to allow for clean-up, the library may open for the 3-8 pm hours. PLEASE CALL AHEAD before venturing out in bad weather. We are happy to renew items over the phone. Fines are not charged when the Library is closed for weather.
UPDATE+++++++++*The installation of the new sidewalk at the library has been delayed until spring. Patches will be made to hold us until then. We will publish the schedule as soon as it is known. Thank you for your patience.
WE HAVE WEBSITES ON OUR ACCESS PAGE THAT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO YOU, SUCH AS: MEDICAL INFO, SCHOOLS' WEBSITES, TOWN WEBSITE, ETC.
Our Granville Library exists due to the industry of several women from the Library Club, and the generosity of Milton B. Whitney. Funds raised were used to construct a unique stone and brick building which was completed in 1902, expressly to be the public library for the town. It houses adult, young adult, and juvenile collections consisting of books, magazines, audios, DVDs, videos, puppets, and cd-roms. Patrons have access to 3 computers that are connected to the internet and printers, as well as 2 computers strictly used for children’s games. There is also a separate catalog computer that allows the user to explore our holdings, in addition to those of other Massachusetts libraries. For nominal fees per page, patrons may use the printers, copier, and FAX.
The Granville Library has an active presence in the center of the town, offering a variety of programs and activities in addition to the information it houses. As an example, during Harvest Fair (held on Columbus Day weekend) funds are raised through a book sale, raffle of a homemade quilt, and sale of other homemade items. Money raised then supports activities like the annual Summer Reading Program offered for children in the town.
The Historical Room of the Granville Library contains early family genealogies, early historical facts about the town of Granville, files on founding families, a great many photographs, military records, microfiche of Granville Vital Records, and varied artifacts. Research information is available. Please contact a librarian to make an appointment.
The Granville Library Club, started in 1896 by thirteen original members, was formed to erect a "Library building with room for suitable attractions for towns people." With money earned by these members and contributions from generous former residents, the building was started in 1900 and opened for use February 22, 1902.
Incorporated in 1901 for the purpose of establishment and maintenance of a Library with room for social meetings, The Club hopes to continue its work for the community~ THE reason for its coming into being and its one aim throughout the years.
